Are we overshooting our protein needs??
Hey CP community, I am currently enrolled in a Sport and Nutrition class and have learned A LOT about diet when it comes to performance. As the semester comes to an end, the main takeaway from the class seems to be that a healthy and balanced diet should be sufficient enough to the point that we should not need any supplements and that whole foods always reign superior. When discussing nutrition guidelines for different sports, I found that bodybuilders and those looking to increase lean mass should consume around 5-7g/kg BW of CHO per day, 2g/kg BW of protein per day, and the rest of our calories should be fat calories. Only 2g/kg BW means that I should only need around 140 grams per day which I get with ease without protein shakes. My question to the community is: is 2g/kg BW really enough?
@pmerkel 1g/lb is more than enough
Plenty of science to support it:
